Bard Banter – Favorites From Boot Hill Heroes
Bard Banter is a series which highlights great music found within the best genre of all – the RPG.
The Switch debut of the Boot Hill series in 2020 surprised me in more ways than one. While I already had a feeling I would like them based on Mike’s review of Boot Hill Bounties earlier that year, I wasn’t quite expecting the Wild West-meets-Earthbound adventure to resonate with me as much as it actually did. Although there are a number of factors that ultimately led me to these feelings – check out my review for my full thoughts – a lot of it had to do with its nostalgia-evoking presentation, and especially its soundtrack.
Jake Kaufman did an excellent job of bringing the Old West to life while also treating the unconventional (thematically speaking) areas of the game with equal care and attention to detail. Whether diving deep into the era-appropriate Saloon Rag, traveling through the depths of the forest accompanied by the sweeping, haunting melody of Whisker Woods, or taking a detour to the traveling circus via the aptly-named track that is “The Circus is in Town,” there is something for just about everyone here. And who can forget about the one that starts it all – Peaceful Morning – that perfectly encapsulates the inaugural steps of a brand-new adventure?
Collectively, we have a surprisingly eclectic soundtrack that has solidly placed itself among my favorites of all time. With that in mind, I hope that you enjoy the following list of my favorite tracks from the Boot Hill series! If you like what you hear, I can assure you that you’ll appreciate it even more by actually playing the games! Also, be sure to check out and support Jake Kaufman by going here.
