Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Review via Twinfinite

I always found myself constantly moving and exploring everything that Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana had to offer, and whenever I needed to take a quick break from all the tight action, I found myself appreciating the company of my fellow castaways and the natural wonders of Seiren Island. With its streamlined combat system and compelling narrative, the latest entry in the Ys series is another solid addition to the Switch's growing library and should definitely be on every JRPG lover's list..

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch) Review via Just Push Start

Despite some small annoyances, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is a blast on the Switch. The simply, yet fun, combat is a winner whether you’re on the go or playing at home. Add in a thrilling story and it makes for one of the better offerings for the platform. Sure, it could perform a little better and do a better job with direction, but these things are quickly forgotten when you’re defending your settlement or finding new residents.

Review: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch) via Nintendo Life

With fun, fast-paced combat, likable characters, and an enjoyable story that takes full advantage of its beautiful shipwrecked setting, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is a top-shelf action RPG. Exploring the Isle of Seiren is as rewarding as mastering the character-swapping, hack-and-slash battle system, and both fit into an addictive feedback loop of adventuring that keeps everything moving at a quick clip. Editing issues and inconsistent image quality in handheld mode are small blemishes on an otherwise polished production, but don't let them deter you; Ys VIII is a true gem.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana Switch review – role-playing survivor via Metro GameCentral

The storytelling is lacking but otherwise this is one of the most interesting Japanese role-players of recent years, and one that isn't afraid to take inspiration from other genres.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch) Review | RPG Site via RPG Site

Ys VIII on Switch manages to offer the best handheld version of the game, but it comes with its own fair share of problems that hold it back.

@PMGoogles This was my first Ys game and I had no problem playing through it. I don't think you are at a real disadvantage by playing it before experiencing the other games, but you can find my full opinions in my full review here:

Would anyone recommend playing this first before playing the older games? Or start with the older ones and work my way up to this game? I own Ys 1, 2 and Origin on Steam.

So far, the Switch version of the game seems to be running very well despite my initial concerns with NISA porting the game. Overall, the story and gameplay in YS VIII have blown me away. I have yet to finish the game, but as it stands this game ranks among my favorite Switch games.

Let's just hope it will be more stable on teh switch than on PC/Steam. That was such a mess... xD

did you already get a review copy?

@jonnydarkfang Performance-wise, you aren't going to have to worry about this port. Expect a full review of the Switch port here in a couple weeks!

Recently got introduced to the Ys series when Origins dropped for Xbox. Really excited to pick up this one for my Switch, only fear is that the PC port is supposedly flawed. Hopefully the Switch version is in better shape when it arrives.

Haven't played a Ys game before, anything I should expect?

i'm looking forward to this. almost bought it for ps4, but i rather want it on the switch :) i hope it does well and they'll bring more Ys games over to the switch.

@Damycky I saw listings for a physical copy at Amazon and Gamestop. NISA online store has a limited edition going on too.
February 20, 2018 10:55:26 AM
@Damyck So far looking like its digital only
February 20, 2018 10:54:41 AM
Just one question, do we already know if this will have a physical release?
February 20, 2018 09:26:16 AM
I'm excited to try it out!
It will be my first Falcom game and I've heard nothing but good things about their games( I'm not going to talk about the NISA drama though).
