Game Description

In an ancient continent, a land of God known as "Alfheim" exists. A long time has passed since the dragons who were once powerful in this world perished. Its souls were crystallized and scattered about the world. However, a dragon survived. And its name is "Kouryuu Ilburn." Seeking the power of the lost dragon, the Imperial Army and Church powers, and now a "Dragon Slayer" who intends to harm the dragon, have begun to stir.

The one who saved the dragon from their clutches was a single "young girl." And before long, warriors known as "Dragon Instrumentalists" began to gather under the dragon. The dragon recalled a childhood memory of a "young girl" who saved him when he was injured. It was a reunion of fate. A beautiful and painful story about the girl and the dragon will be told.

Shining Resonance Refrain Review by Phillip Pinyan

Shining Resonance: Refrain – Switch via GameSpace

Shining Resonance: Refrain is, I hope, the beginning of the Shining series' return to the US and EU as a SEGA mainstay. Its systems are top-notch, its action is uniquely its own, and lord knows we need more solid JRPGs back in the West.

Shining Resonance Refrain (Switch) Review via NintendoWorldReport

Apart from the dated combat, Shining Resonance seemed to have the right elements to be a success but just missed a certain chemistry to really hook me in. Fans of previous titles in the series and seasoned RPG players may find the enjoyment that alluded me. I wouldn't tell you to avoid this game, but there's a whole lot I would recommend before it.

Shining Resonance Refrain Review – A Tale That Shines On Through via COGconnected

Shining Resonance Refrain plays like a pretty standard yet extremely solid JRPG. Despite the slow beginning, the story is interesting and extremely well thought out. The characters are likable and the graphics are beautiful. And it has a good combat system that's easy to pick up and yet varied enough to keep the player's attention along with a whole new added story with Refrain mode.

Shining Resonance Refrain (Nintendo Switch) Review via Cubed3

Shining Resonance Refrain has its small irritating bits here and there and turns out to not be a very large scale JRPG, but that doesn't mean that it should be shunned for it. Its smaller scale and relatively simpler structure makes it easier to sink some time into than an even more massive JRPG like the Xenoblade titles, which may be more intimidating as a result of their scope. As for its minor setbacks, they are easily offset by its other intrinsic qualities, chiefly the loveable cast of main characters. Fans of the JRPG genre in its more classical form, but also of manga/anime style adventure stories, should find plenty to enjoy here.

Okay, that's another demo I'll have to try out vefore the actual game release. It feels like it could be either a hit or miss though, in the end...

Tried the demo earlier today, and I was not at all impressed. The stage design felt thrown together and lifeless, and the enemies mostly stood there, took hits, and then would do big, obvious wind ups for weak attacks. Even fighting a Level 4, "Risky" enemy felt meaningless.

I had my hopes up for a bit there that we might get a traditional strategy Shining game ala Shining Force 2 on the Master System but they haven't done a game like that in ages. Maybe someday!

But this looks like a nice action rpg. I look forward to seeing some reviews for this one.

I played the demo. There are seeds of something interesting in there, but the demo totally fails at showing off much. Maybe actual reviews will change my mind.

I'll get this game, but not day one because of Octopath! Haven't played a Shining game so far, but it looks interesting.

For those interested, there's a demo on the eShop!

*SCREAMING* Did not even realize they were bringing this series to the Switch! I hope they optimize it efficiently, because I would be so disappointed if this turned out to be a sloppy port!

This looks interesting!

I'm personally interested in this, it seems like a nicely balanced mix between turn-base and full-on action games, and the fact that you can switch characters to exploit the best of each depending on the situation seems like a nice way to make every battle interesting.
I'm putting this in my Wishlist for now; keeping an eye out for more details about the Switch version.

Don't know about this one, seems fun but too much fanservice puts me away...

I will still this on my wish list. Unsure if it will stay there but looks interesting so far.

This game actually interests me I want to try some new things

Only the vaguest memory of this series, and never played it. The Switch is definitely becoming the PSP/Vita of the day, which is a great thing.

I'm completely new to this franchise. I've added it to my Wishlist and will keep my eye on it. Zer0's excitement in discord was enough to perk my ears haha.
