Review: Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs (Nintendo Switch) - Pure Nintendo via Pure Nintendo

Regalia is a fun tactical RPG with a strong narrative element. It's not without it's issues – mainly loading times – but it's a well-designed and content-rich game nonetheless.

Regalia: Of Man and Monarchs (Switch) Review via NintendoWorldReport

The sheer amount of content that they were able to pack into Regalia is incredible and the fact that they were able to make it all work is nothing short of outstanding. Apart from the onerous loading times that could alienate a few, the chemistry of blending time management with a complex and engaging battle system while tying it altogether with an engaging story and brilliant voice acting is an achievement that has eluded large development teams with years of game creation experience. I wholly recommend Regalia to fans who enjoy RPGs and I will be the first to put my hand up for the review of the next game this developer comes up with.

Scrolling through the page, the game was looking more and more promising. Sad to hear about the performance issues. Any final word on if they hashed them out?

I'm pretty sure that they did release a patch early on, but I have not tested it myself to see if it makes much of a difference. Would be curious to know, though.

Any more updates on performance issues being ironed out on the Switch? I tried searching, but haven't seen any patches mentioned since early May. Also curious if a physical release will be released, I remember it being teased.

They've released a patch that will supposedly clear up some of the performance problems people were having such as shortening the loading times 3-4 seconds. Maybe now is a much better time to jump in it

Despite craving a tactical JRPG with looks more akin to FFT, this game didn't do it for me. First, the performance issues are pretty bad. In the dev's defense, they have addressed most of them and have offered some suggestions + a road map for when other issues will be fixed. But it was enough of an issue to turn me off completely before I really had a chance to get started.

We're talking load times, folks. Load times are frequent and atrocious. Even going between sections of your kingdom often call for 5-10 second loads each time. Compounding it is the fact that the entire design of the game is heavily segregated and instanced; so you really feel these load times pile on quick. Not only that, but it killed any sort of immersion I might get because I saw more loading screens than anything else.

The performance issues spill over into combat as well, where sometimes the screen will freeze for a few seconds before executing your command. That said, the combat is fun, and the graphics are beautiful. But I just can't recommend this until they resolve the performance issues a bit more.

Definitely like the looks of this one! Combat looks interesting and varied enough. Hopefully the kingdom building part is well fleshed out too. Probably pick this up when it drops!
