Weekend Gaming Playlist

The arrival of the Trials of Mana remake alone made April a big month for the Switch. This highly anticipated RPG has been a hit with our staff, though not without some nitpicking along the way. Feel free to check out our party chats and official review for a thorough and detailed analysis! Regardless, here are some of the things I’ll be playing this weekend, but the biggest question is: will the hype of my fellow SwitchRPG staff members be enough to convince me to dive into Trials?

Trials of Mana

YES. I once modded my original SNES just to play the original Japanese release, Seiken Densetsu 3, and while the gameplay was a blast, it was maddening not being able to understand the text. For years, I’ve debated on whether to purchase a repro English cartridge, so why wouldn’t I embrace the opportunity to play the full-fledged 3D remake?

This brutally difficult vehicular rogue-lite blends characteristics from the Spy Hunter series with a Mad Max Wasteland setting, in an attempt to satisfy the itch for nostalgia. There are some tactical aspects to the game, so those that enjoy micromanagement may also enjoy Convoy. Keeping true to its retro inspiration there is no saving, so players should instead be prepared for a checkpoint-to-checkpoint grind. Full review coming soon!

Super Mario RPG

One of the G.O.A.T.s, Super Mario RPG is simply timeless. The story, gameplay, and graphics have easily withstood the test of time and I highly recommend this SNES classic to anyone that may have missed its original release back in late ’90s.

That’s it for me! Thanks for visiting SwitchRPG today. What will you be playing?
