Weekend Gaming Playlist

We’ve arrived at another weekend! Whatever your current situation may be, I hope you find some solace in the coming days. For me, that means doing my best NOT to almost step on more snakes (I wish I was kidding) and, of course, lots of game time! Here’s what is on the docket for me this weekend:

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

I recently reactivated my Gamefly membership after abandoning it many years ago. With the uncertainty choking our world and its economy right now, I figured that $17 a month would be a more cost-efficient alternative to my usual gaming budget. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is the first of many games I intend to check out through this service, and my impressions, so far, are relatively positive. I’m not the biggest Pokemon guy, but I love roguelikes/lites with RPG elements. Who knows, maybe this is the kick in the pants I need(?) to make me start investing in other Pokemon games outside of its first generation of titles.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The newest entry into the Animal Crossing series couldn’t have come at a better time. With everything amiss globally, it is comforting to know there’s a place you can temporarily escape into; one that is as carefree as possible. As the furthest thing from an Animal Crossing fan, I’ll admit, it is easy to think people are crazy for playing such a game for hours on end. That said, I now have over 60 hours under my belt, and there’s no end in sight. While not a totally frustration-free experience – some of the design decisions are downright atrocious – it is definitely one of the more “chill” games to play out there, and can really suck those in that love design and customization.

Final Fantasy V

As part of the lockdown experience, I’ve decided to jump back into the Final Fantasy series and finish up some of the earlier titles I’ve played many times over, but have never actually completed. While there will never exist enough evidence to coerce me into finishing some of the later games in the franchise – sorry, but not sorry, X-2 and XV – I believe there’s still much to enjoy from many of the older entries; including V. I’m already well on my way to completing this one, and who knows, I may just compile my thoughts on it (for the site) once I have everything tied up!

That’s it for me this weekend! Stay safe and healthy!
