Weekend Gaming Playlist

It’s nearly the weekend again and with the holidays right around the corner, some might be finding a little more or, sadly, a little less play time in our stockings. Since this is my first Weekend Gaming Playlist post I figured we would do something a tad different. All you regulars cover your ears and shield your eyes: I’m playing a tad more than just RPG’s this weekend. Don’t worry though, we’ll kick it off with a nice gift for all you RPG fans. My stocking is stuffed full of games thanks to #indiexmas2018. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t yet. Here’s what I plan on doing this weekend. But you know what they say about the best-laid plans…

The Keep

I told you all I would kick off the Weekend Gaming Playlist with a nice little gift! This is first up because it’s actually an upcoming SwitchRPG review of mine, in addition to it just looking really cool. I can definitely dig a good dungeon crawler, especially one that sells itself on tactical combat. I haven’t put a ton of time into it yet so details are sparse, but the Magic spells and item variety look superb.

Horizon Shift 81

This is my current Nintendo Switch love affair. We’ll be in the back of the room on the couch after this post is over. If you like retro arcade games, this one should hit the spot perfectly. The addition of the horizon in the middle of the playable area makes this one unique. Horizon Shift 81 does a bunch of things right and only gets better the more you play it, as you get accustomed to its intricacies. I challenge any game to get any more retro than this one.

The Adventures of Elena Temple

I just bought this one on a recommendation from #indiexmas2018. I’m not sure if this is my type of game, but it’s worth a shot. It’s currently on sale for $1.99 so I’m not out much if it’s a stinker. I hear some good things about it so I’m keeping my hopes up. Simple navigation and jump mechanics complicated by spike traps and snakes all in the name of finding the rich stuff!? Sign me up!

Jack N’ Jill DX

I was a little disappointed when I first started into this one, but as I have progressed through I have found the more advanced levels and additional game mechanics both a pleasure and a challenge to play. I’m not a huge fan of the soundtrack but I think the level design is really smart and well thought out. I will definitely continue playing this one into the weekend.

Hello Neighbor Hide and Seek

We’re going to put this one on the bottom of the list and sort of pretend that Frozen never included it. I am most definitely playing Hello Neighbor Hide and Seek this weekend (Frozen plays too many games). The downside is that I’m not that huge of a fan of it so far. I am only a little way into it, so there’s more than enough time for it to redeem itself (hopefully).

I’m sure there’s going to be 5, 11, or 15 more #indiexmas2018 titles I will play over the weekend but this is all that my “best laid-plan” can manage at the moment. What are you playing this weekend? Make sure to comment below. I’d be interested to hear what everyone else is doing leading up to the holiday season.
