Weekend Gaming Playlist (2-10-23)

We’re already approaching the middle of February, and within the next couple weeks, we’re going to have a ton of Switch RPG releases dropped on us. As a result, I’m at a weird point where I’m hesitant to pick up much of anything new, knowing good and well that I’ll be picking up at least two lengthy releases within the next couple of weeks (notably Labyrinth of Galleria and Octopath Traveler II). So for now, here’s what I’ll be playing.

Siralim Ultimate

I have really struggled to care about any monster catching RPG since my middle school days, where I was totally obsessed with the first generation of Pokemon. While Siralim Ultimate isn’t really anything like Pokemon mechanically, that’s probably a good thing since I’ve struggled to connect with any newer Pokemon game for decades now. They do, however, share the concept of collecting many monsters, and Siralim Ultimate has proven to be quite fun with its slew of interesting features and randomized dungeons. While I’ve barely scratched the surface of this game for now, I’m certainly looking forward to more time with it over the weekend.

Tangledeep

Tangledeep has easily become my favorite and go-to roguelite on the Nintendo Switch, and I particularly love being able to hop into it in between large releases when I simply need something good to play. While the game has received numerous updates and vastly expanded what it originally offered at a base level, I’ve grown particularly fond of the more traditional roguelike “Ronin Mode” it added in a more recent patch. Seriously, if you haven’t picked up this game yet, do it! You won’t be disappointed…

Final Fantasy Tactics

I’m still plugging away at my Let’s Play of Final Fantasy Tactics, and just reached the final chapter. While this is the point where many games ramp up the difficulty, Final Fantasy Tactics notoriously throws any sense of difficulty out the window in this chapter primarily thanks to the recruitment of Thunder God Cid. It gets stupid from a balance perspective even without him, but that’s part of the game’s charm and it certainly doesn’t tarnish the otherwise excellent game overall, one that is still highly regarded to this very day.

That’s it for me this weekend! What are YOU going to play?
