Weekend Gaming Playlist

Summer is in full swing – it is beautiful (and hot) outside and we are in the middle of a surge of RPGs – both indie and AAA – hitting the Nintendo Switch. Cris Tales and NEO: The World Ends With You, alongside a plethora of indie releases, have dropped in the past two weeks alone. Many of these I will be playing this weekend. However you decide to spend your summer, hopefully you make some time for gaming. While I absolutely can’t keep up with all the releases this summer, here is a sampling of some that I will be playing this weekend.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Skyward Sword is a “new to me” Legend of Zelda game, and my physical copy has finally arrived! I had to import it from the UK to get that sweet poster and steelbook. It’s always exciting to play a new Zelda game as it’s one of my favorites series. This entry is no exception, regardless of its initial mixed reception. And the Switch version isn’t just a port of the Wii version, a lot of improvements have been made. I am glad that it runs at 60FPS and can be played in handheld mode. I am about 6 hours into my adventure now and working my way through the second dungeon.

Ayo the Clown

When I saw Nintendo’s Indie World Twitter account drop the trailer for Ayo the Clown, I knew I had to play it. The game instantly reminded me of Yoshi’s Crafted World by its gameplay and aesthetics. It even has some RPG elements via Ayo searching for his beloved dog, who has mysteriously disappeared. As Ayo traverses the levels of each world, various NPCs offer him quests in exchange for upgrades or rewards. I am about 2/3 the way through the game’s 30+ levels, so look for my full review on Ayo the Clown soon.

Trigger Witch

Trigger Witch is a 2D twin-stick action game developed by the wonderful indie studio Rainbite. I was able to check out the game when they put a demo out on xbox earlier this summer, and I liked what I saw. You play as a Witch named Colette who has an arsenal of weapons, including a machine gun. Now the full version of the game has been released and I can’t wait to play it. Look for our full coverage on Trigger Witch up on the site in the coming weeks.

Bravely Default II

Bravely Default II is my first “Bravely” game. Thankfully, you don’t need to have played the past entries in order to enjoy this one. I liked Octopath Traveler and we have a lot of people in our Discord who praised this entry, so I decided to pick it up and so far, I have no regrets. I have a few sidequests I want to complete before progressing the story and I also look forward to experimenting with the new job I recently unlocked.

That’s it for me this weekend! What are you going to play? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Twitter. Enjoy your time playing, stay safe, and be well!
