Weekend Gaming Playlist

Summer continues to heat up, and so are the many releases constantly arriving on the Nintendo Switch. I’ve only managed to snag a fraction of the titles released this season, and I’ve barely scratched the surface of any of them. I’m hoping that this weekend, however, that I can turn the tide more in my favor. Here’s what I’m planning to play:

Disgaea 6

In 2017, the Switch version of Disgaea 5 took me completely by surprise with its engaging spin on tactical RPG goodness. I had avoided the franchise for years simply due to its strong anime influence, but I finally buckled and I’m glad that I did. Needless to say, I was hyped for Disgaea 6, especially with all the quality-of-life features it promised to bring. While I’m still very early on in my adventure, I’m liking what I’ve seen so far. Will it dethrone Disgaea 5 in my eyes? Only time will tell.

Monster Hunter Stories 2

As someone who has never been able to get into the Monster Hunter series, I’ve found myself surprisingly enraptured by the latest in this spinoff branch. A turn-based RPG at its core, this game has managed to snap me out of a weeks-long Switch break quite well. While it is far from perfect – it has terrible performance issues – I’m looking forward to getting even more into being a Monster Rider (that, funnily enough, also is a Monster Hunter).

Final Fantasy XIV

From 2003, up until the Switch’s launch, I was a massive fan of MMORPGs. Starting with Final Fantasy XI, I devoted virtually all of my free time to various MMOs for years, especially after World of Warcraft launched in 2004. While I haven’t been too keen on these kinds of timesinks in more recent years, I’ve always appreciated how much emphasis Final Fantasy XIV puts on its narrative content alone.

After seeing it explode in popularity recently for various reasons, I decided to jump into Eorzea once more in an attempt to experience the story to its fullest. While history has proven that I may abandon it before achieving that goal, I’m currently having a blast and am showing no signs of stopping…yet.

That’s it for me this weekend! What are YOU going to play?
