Weekend Gaming Playlist (12-2-22)

Coming off the heels of what I feel should be the RPG of the year for the Nintendo Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I now have a gigantic hole in my playtime

PERFECT, Right? WRONG!

My backlog has been staring at me like a grim reaper just waiting for the right time to strike and that time is now. Plenty of choices, but what do I choose?

– Tactics Ogre: Reborn
– Person 5 Royal
– Shin Megami Tensei V
– Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
– Monster Hunter Rise

The one constant I have right now is Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. While it’s not ideal playing it on the Switch, due to it being the cloud version, I have still been really enjoying it. The turn-based gameplay is a vast improvement over the ‘real time with pause’ (RTwP) combat you typically see in cRPGs. I don’t vehemently oppose RTwP combat, it just doesn’t translate well to the console.

What does translate well, however, is the feeling that I’m actually playing a tabletop game. That’s likely why I’m enjoying this so much. While I can’t meet up with my real life crew to play tabletop Pathfinder whenever I feel like, I can pick up my Switch and play to my heart’s content (as long as I’m connected to the Internet). If you’ve been following the SwitchRPG YouTube channel, you’ll see that this is my current ‘Let’s Play’ series and will likely be there for a while.

This is a tough call. What should I play? I’m trying not to get into a game that’s too long because I’m saving myself to play a game I’ve been waiting for quite a while. The arrival of Chained Echoes is imminent and I cannot wait. So what’ll be? I choose…..Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope. While I’ll certainly dip into some of the other games on the list, I’ll be devoting most of my time to Mario’s latest strategy rpg. I quite enjoyed the first Mario + Rabbids and I’m really excited to see all of the changes that have been made here.

That’s it for me this weekend! What are YOU going to play?
