Weekend Gaming Playlist (11-18-22)

The holiday season is ramping up, which means there are sales galore on the horizon. But before all that excitement takes place starting next week, this week, I’m playing through several beefy games that will definitely keep me busy for the foreseeable future. Although, if we’re actually being honest, it’ll be one particular game holding my attention, and maybe the others if I feel like changing it up.

Pokemon Violet

As the Pokemon fanatic on the team, I’ve been fairly excited to play the new Pokemon. Currently, my excitement is a bit reserved given the aesthetic change between Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet, along with the deluge of trailers that dropped over the past few months. But I’m pretty sure that the minute I boot up the game, my excitement will jump through the roof. My expectations are on the ground, just ready to play another Pokemon game with my buddy Quaxly.

Tactics Ogre Reborn

I’ve played a bit of Tactics Ogre on my Vita and so getting to revisit this great SRPG and fully appreciate it is something I’m excited about. Just like with Disgaea, I’m ready to create a butt-ton of NPC units and play around with builds until I find the layouts that work for me. It’s very interesting though what revisiting a game years later does to you. While I remember the gist of the opening chapter, it feels almost like a different game, even though I’m sure I played a decent chunk of the game previously.

Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen

This game has been on my mind ever since it joined my backlog on Steam. I’ve always wanted to try out the Utawarerumono series since it’s a mix of tactics and visual novel. While I’m still early in the game, it does appear to lean more into visual novel than tactics. However, that’s not a problem in my eyes and I find myself enjoying the story, characters, and setting quite a bit. I’m very excited to fully jump into this series and hope that I come out of it a fan. The SteamDeck has definitely opened up the world of PC games for me and I’m very excited (and scared) of all the choices I have at my feet.

That’s it for me this weekend! What are you going to play? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Twitter. Happy Pokemon week!
