Weekend Gaming Playlist

The day is finally upon us: Paper Mario: The Origami King is out, and we no longer know what Nintendo has scheduled for the remainder of 2020. I wonder what I’ll be playing this weekend, then…?

Paper Mario: The Origami King

The Paper Mario series makes its debut on Switch today, and I am looking forward to checking it out. Though first impressions from outlets publishing their reviews of the game may be worrisome for hardcore RPG fans, I am still looking forward to it. The newest entires in the series have seemed to drift further away from the RPG genre and more towards the adventure genre. Although I haven’t played the series’ latest entries, I have fond memories of playing the original Paper Mario on the Nintendo 64 and The Thousand-Year Door on the GameCube. The writing and humor in the series has stayed present, even as the genre has changed. Even if this entry is lighter on the RPG mechanics, I look forward to playing it and watching my kids get introduced to RPGs with a more simplistic experience, much like they were exposed to dungeon crawlers with the recently-released Minecraft Dungeons.

That’s it for me this weekend! Only one game on the docket this weekend, but I hope to play a lot of it. What are you going to play? Let us know in the comments below. Enjoy your time playing, stay safe, and be well!
