Upcoming Switch RPGs – October 2022

Despite not having a lot of RPG releases compared to last month, there are still quite a few large releases coming out in October. Of course, if you’ve stayed on top of RPG releases on other consoles, you’ve probably played a few of these titles. But for those who held out for the promise of having these games on the Switch, October finally delivers on some of the major wishlist games for many Switch players this year.

Guardian Tales

Originally a mobile game, Guardian Tales is a cute pixel RPG where you must save the world from the Invaders. Split your time between solving puzzles, swinging your sword in action combat, and traversing through dark dungeons. With over 50 heroes to choose from and 100 weapons to make use of, those who are interested in mobile game ports may find a good time sink here.

Nier: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition

Nier: Automata has carved itself a community in the realm of RPGs. Known for its multiple endings and deeper meanings, Switch gamers can finally play this award-winning RPG. Driven to the moon due to an invading force of weapons known as machine lifeforms, military force YoRHa seeks to take back the planet with the help of several members of their force, such as 2B and 9S.

Josh Journey: Darkness Totems

A team of four heroes must fight against an invading monster from the Dream World in this beat ’em up RPG. Play via co-op or by yourself, use your special combo attacks to sweep through enemies and implant Darkness Totems to hold the nightmare monsters at bay. Switch between characters on the fly, build out special attacks in battle that will help turn the tide of battle in an instant.

Endless Memories

No Man’s Sky

The Witch’s House

In the slow but steady stream of horror rpgs making their way to Switch comes The Witch’s House. Viola finds herself drawn to a mysterious mansion that changes with every twist and turn that she makes. Jumpscares and puzzles await those with the fortitude to explore the unknown. Originally released in 2012, the Nintendo Switch release brings updated graphics and a new unlockable difficulty with new events and dialogue. So for those who have never played this game before, as well as fans who’ve played the original, this upgraded release brings something for everyone.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

The highly rated Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is finally releasing this month. A malevolent entity is reigning terror upon the galaxy and its up to the Mario and Rabbid cast to save their Spark companions. Choose from a cast of nine characters in intense battles and make use of your surroundings as you overwhelm your opponents with your skills.

Sea Horizon

Roguelike and tabletop fans will have a double-whammy to explore with Sea Horizon. Traverse a hex-grid map that changes with each adventure and make a name of yourself in the archipelago of Myrihyn. Select from an assortment of characters, each with their own stories. Bring out your luck with dice rolls and card draws during battle, and be careful of the choices you make, as they may be your last.

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 was probably the most requested RPG to port over to the Switch, and finally, the requests have been answered. Along with 3 and 4 later down the road, Persona 5 Royal can be played in all its glory with this definitive edition. Play as the protagonist, who ends up transferring to a new school and finds himself swept up in a strange world of demons, crime, and Phantom Thieves. With multiple endings to wander down, along with the additional content that comes with the Royal version, newcomers to the series are in for a real treat with this turn-based RPG.

A Winding Path
