Switch RPG Questmas – RPGs On Sale Under $10USD

Looking to get some quality Switch RPGs on the cheap this holiday season? This list has you covered! Below is a list of Switch RPGs that are currently on sale for under $10USD (on the US eShop). While there are many, many more RPGs on sale than what is shown below – check out Deku Deals for a more complete list – these are some that I can personally vouch for being quality experiences:

Blasphemous

75% Off, Currently $6.24USD Until January 6th

Although Blasphemous hasn’t been officially covered by SwitchRPG (yet), it is undoubtedly an excellent metroidvania experience with a reputation for being extremely challenging, but also fair. With tight, responsive controls and stunning (albeit disturbing) pixel art, Blasphemous is definitely one to consider this holiday season.

Steamworld Heist – Ultimate Edition

80% Off, Currently $3.99USD Until January 1st

Our Review (Rated Great)

When I first played SteamWorld Heist back in 2019, it left me with no regrets save for not picking it up when it first came out. Like steampunk? Play this game. Tactical/Strategy enthusiast? Play it. In it just for the wearable hats? Whatever the case may be, play this game.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

80% Off, Currently $9.99USD Until December 22nd

Our Review (Rated Great)

It is fortunate for RPG fans that Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has made a home on Switch, because it is absolutely a title that every fan of the genre should have on their shelves. The epic, yet sentimental story, conglomerate of interesting game mechanics, and exceptional presentation puts this title in the upper echelon of RPGs. It isn’t perfect – none really are – but the overwhelming amount of positive traits present more than outweigh those that aren’t so great. If you give it a chance, you too will discover for yourself that the adventures of the wizard boy, Oliver, are not to be missed.

Moonlighter

75% Off, Currently $6.24 Until January 2nd

Our Review (Rated Great)

Moonlighter is a dream come true for those entrepreneurs who like complete control of their businesses, down to moonlighting as an adventurer in order to stock their shelves. This unique take on the tried-and-true roguelite formula is as refreshing as it is engaging.

Star Ocean: First Departure R

60% Off, $8.39USD Until December 31st (Rated Great)

Our Review

In a year already stacked with a number of quality Switch RPG releases, Star Ocean: First Departure R was a pleasant, budget-friendly surprise in 2019. It certainly shows its age from time-to-time, but it also proves that those years are a non-issue if you’re ultimately having fun. Don’t sleep on this one – it is a journey well worth taking despite its shortcomings.

My Time At Portia

75% Off, Currently $7.49USD Until January 6th

Our Review (Rated Good)

If you can get past its graphical and technical shortcomings, some of which have been addressed in patches by now, My Time At Portia is a lot of fun. There are many things to do, sights to see, products to craft, and relationships to cultivate – really, there are hours upon hours of content for those that enjoy multi-layered (but easygoing) grinds. You have to be in it for the long haul though – nothing in Portia comes without an equal amount of effort put in first.

Shadows of Adam

50% Off, Currently $7.49USD Until January 6th

Our Review (Rated Great)

Over the years, many games have aspired to tap into the nostalgic reserves of retro JRPG fans, but few have actually succeeded in that endeavor. In 2019, Shadows of Adam was a gold standard in that regard and while it has a lot more competition these days, it remains a solid, modern take on the retro-inspired JRPG formula. The amount of love, passion, and effort clearly put forth into this experience is to be commended, and fans of 16-bit era JRPGs itching for their next meaningful experience need look no further than Shadows of Adam.

Dragon Quest III

35% Off, Currently $8.11USD Until December 31st

Our Review (Rated Good)

It is easy to see why so many Dragon Quest fans hold the third entry in such high regard – it ups the ante in comparison to its predecessors by way of a myriad of additions and adjustments, including further focus on its storytelling and the introduction of the class-based system. Not all of these things work, particularly the ill-conceived personality system. Although the absence of exposition cutscenes giving further context for the hero’s father still puzzles me, the journey as a whole is still very much one worth taking. With the HD-2D version of this game on the horizon – fingers crossed for 2022 – there’s never been a better time to familiarize yourself or play through this iconic entry in the Dragon Quest franchise once more.

Final Fantasy VII

50% Off, Currently $7.99USD Until December 31st

Our Review (Rated Great)

Final Fantasy VII was Square Enix’s most ambitious, heartfelt project at the time of its release, and while it has lost some of its luster over the years, that core passion still shines through to this day. Final Fantasy VII’s scope alone (in its original context) is magical, and it is clear to me that the team behind it put their heart, mind, and soul into the project.

There is a reason why many consider it the best Final Fantasy ever (I don’t) and why many more at least acknowledge its importance to the industry and its undeniable legacy (I do). Do yourself a favor and play this game if you never have before, and if you’re looking to return there has never been a better time to do so thanks to some quality-of-life updates. Final Fantasy VII might not seem as ambitious as it once did, but it is still an incredible ride for fans of the traditional JRPG.

Torchlight II

75% Off, Currently $4.99USD Until December 31st

While many Switch RPG fans are undoubtedly still enjoying diving into the hellish world of Sanctuary via Diablo II: Resurrected, others may be put off by recent Blizzard controversy, the dark, sinister subject matter of the game itself, or perhaps even the price point. The Torchlight series was conceived thanks in part to some ex-Blizzard developers and while it’s far less realistic and way more cartoony than it’s demon-infested counterpart, it remains a deep, quality hack-and-slash franchise. While both Torchlight II and III are currently on sale for under $10USD, I’ve only included the second entry because it’s the only one I can vouch for (though Evan enjoyed his time with III in 2020).

Golf Story

53% Off, Currently $6.99USD Until December 31st

Our Review (Rated Good)

Golf Story was one of the earlier RPGs to come to Switch, and one of the very first exclusives on the console itself. And while many years have passed since its debut, it remains one of the better RPGs on the platform and easily one of the best sports RPGs out there. If for some reason you haven’t picked this one up yet, do yourself a favor and pick it up whether you’re actually a sports fan or not.

That’s it for this list! I hope that you’ve found this information insightful, and let me know what you think about these games and whether you take advantage of any of the sales!
