Most Wanted Switch RPG Ports: June 2018 Edition

A couple months ago, I mentioned a handful of games that I’d love to see join the Switch RPG lineup. And if you have been a part of our very active Discord in any capacity, you would know that the wanted games channel gets blown up on a daily basis. So much time has passed since my first list, and so many games have been mentioned in Discord that it spurred some more ideas of games I’d kill to see on the Switch.

SaGa: The Complete Gameboy Collection

Okay, okay. I realize that this is a stretch of epic proportions, and that I already mentioned the standalone SaGa 2 in my original article. But the fact remains that all three SaGa games that were released on the original Gameboy are fantastic RPGs. While the first installment hasn’t aged quite as well as the other two, it still offers a solid experience. I highly doubt that we would ever see a complete collection of the trio of games on the Switch, let alone the individual titles. But man, wouldn’t that be awesome?
While you are at it, you could give SaGa 1 and 3 a DS makeover like SaGa 2 received for the Japanese audience. A dream, for sure, but an awesome one at that. I would gladly pick up this collection, whether direct ports or remakes, for full price if it were ever to be made. Just throwing that out there…

Trails Series (Specifically, Trails in the Sky)

This is a series that I’ve attempted to get into multiple times, but have never really stuck with it. It is not due to a dislike of the series, however. Because I can only play it on PC, and the fact that they are pretty massive games, I find that my interest wanes after a few sessions (or if a newer, more anticipated title releases).

That said, I can almost guarantee that if they were to bring it to Switch, not only would it be an overwhelming success, I would easily play it to completion due to the ability to play it on the go, as well as on my TV. I realize that this is already available to play on some mobile consoles, but sadly, on none that I own personally.

Diablo II or III

With the recent rumors of something Diablo coming to Switch, I can’t help but yearn for such a title on the platform. While I liked the thematic change with Titan Quest, as well as the expansive skill tree in Path of Exile, I’ve always been a Diablo fanboy since the days of a duped Stones of Jordan-infested economy in the early days of Battlenet. Although I think a Diablo III port is the more likely of the two, I would still welcome classic D2 or a remake of sorts with open arms. Make it happen, Blizzard!

Mother III

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. While initially the SNES Earthbound / Mother II was only a moderate success at best (at least in the States), it has since gathered a massive cult following. This interest would go on to spawn hit satirical RPGs, like Undertale, years later. Obviously, there is still a market for games that offer Peanut Cheese Bars as refreshments and host puke monsters.

Mother III was never officially released in the States, but did receive a professional-caliber fan translation later on. That still doesn’t change the fact that I’d love to play it on my Switch, in proper form, with an official English translation. What if they took it one step further and released a physical version, complete with an official scratch-and-sniff strategy guide like Earthbound once did? My inner child’s nostrils are going crazy just thinking of the prospect. Honestly, that guide smelled awful, but was an interesting conversation piece for sure. In all seriousness though, this will probably never happen, but I’d love for it to regardless.

That’s it for now. What are some games you’d like to see come aboard the Switch? Be sure to check out our discord for daily discussion surrounding wanted games and much more!
