With 2021 kicking off in high gear, we are starting to see some of the heavy hitters of the year on the horizon. Here is a list of 10 RPGs that you should keep your eyes out for, both big and small!
Kowloon High-School Chronicle
Releasing February 4th

Originally released back in 2004 in Japan, Kowloon High-School Chronicle is a hybrid 1st-person dungeon crawler and adventure simulation game. Playing as a young treasure hunter, you transfer to Kamiyoshi Academy in search of a treasure deep within the school. But the journey won’t be as simple as you think, with monsters and even members of the school standing in your way.
Blue Fire
Releasing February 4th

You will explore the strange world of Penumbra and discover the secrets hiding in the land. As a 3D platformer with RPG elements, you will be faced with challenging platforming, an engaging progression system, and many collectibles to keep you occupied. There are many mysteries to uncover in Blue Fire.
Haven
Releasing February 4th

Playing as the two characters Yu and Kay, you will explore an unfamiliar world that will soon become home. Battle against the odds to maintain and build your relationship, as well as craft, fight, explore, and meet new friends. This is a game that can be played both solo, as well as local co-op with a friend or family member.
Undermine
Releasing February 11th

Undermine is an action adventure game with rogue-like elements. With your goal of unfolding the mysteries of the dungeon, you will explore, upgrade yourself, die, rinse, and repeat. With the ability to rescue characters stuck in the dungeon, they will help you along your way by offering you upgrades. With an endless amount of gameplay possible due to its rogue-like game loop, fans of the genre should be excited for this title.
Aground
Releasing February 11th

Playing as one of the few humans stuck on a stranded island, survival is key in Aground. With other NPCS, you must build if you wish to survive, and see the human race prosper in the future. With an overarching plot, crafting is integral to the story. And when it comes to what you can craft, nothing is outside of the realm of possibility.
Fallen Legion Revenants
Releasing February 16th

An action RPG that follows Rowena and Lucien as they seek to overthrow the tyrant of their country, Welkin. Using the powers of Exemplars, weapons that can be personified, they go on a quest to stage a coup. With the ability to switch between strategic combat and investigative moments, Fallen Legion may prove to be a promising experience. With a demo available to play right now, players can dip their toes in before the official release.
Persona 5 Scramble
Releasing February 22nd

While not the Persona 5 game that fans were hoping would be announced for the Switch, Strikers looks as though it will still be a fun and exciting experience. As a sequel to Persona 5, Strikers takes place during a summer vacation when suddenly the world around them becomes distorted. With familiar stylings, music, and characters, Persona 5 fans will find themselves right at home.
Demon’s Rise: Lord of Chaos
Releasing February 25th

Demon’s Rise Lord of Chaos is a tactical turn-based RPG. Set in the brutal cold north, you and your comrades will battle against fierce enemies , humongous beasts, and much more. Boasting a playable roster of 25 different characters, a long campaign of more than 40 hours, and engaging lore, fans of fantasy tactics games should keep their eyes peeled.
Bravely Default II
Releasing February 26th

Despite the name implying otherwise, Bravely Default II centers a brand new cast of characters in a new world. With the ability to customize your team any way that you like, you will follow the cast of BDII as they work to save their world. With the team taking their first demo and tuning the game based on feedback, a second demo has been released after many improvements.
Baobabs Mausoleum Grindhouse Edition
Releasing February 26th

Baobabs Mausoleum Grindhouse Edition is quite a strange game to describe. Adventure, mystery, RPG, lifestyle, and yet none of those appear to fully encapsulate what experience this game will leave you with. Playing as Watracio Walpurgis, an eggplant FBI agent, you will journey through Flamingo’s Creek, a ghost town that only appears every 25 years. For those looking for something out of the ordinary, this game may tickle your fancy.
